Deed of Assignment
Terms of My Membership to I Am The Society, Inc.
Any and all information I provide I Am The Society, Inc. (“iAMS” or “the Society”)
concerning my whereabouts, as well as pertinent details about the works I
submit for registration with the Society, are provided in good faith and, to the
best of my knowledge, completely true;
I am not a member of any organization that deems it unlawful for me either to be
a member of iAMS or to register with the Society works for which I am the lyricist
and/or composer.
The Performance Rights of the works that I register with iAMS are not currently
or concurrently assigned, sold, rented, pawned, donated or bequeathed in whole
or part to any other individual or organization; and I shall not assign the same to
any third party for as long as it remains effectively registered with the Society;
I understand that iAMS is to represent on my behalf only the works that I have
assigned to the Society; to be very clear, I may remain a member of the Society
without having to assign all of my works to iAMS. Conversely, iAMS is neither
obligated nor presumed to look after my interests over works that I have either
assigned to another party, or in any case not submitted to the Society;
I am aware that, as a matter of principle and for practicality, the Society adopts a
participatory approach to the gathering and systematizing of data in
determining the fair share of the members of the Society.
I perfectly understand, and in fact appreciate, and happy to diligently participate
in the process – and help put in actual practice a truly fair, inclusive, transparent,
mutually respectful, and goodwill driven Society.
The information contributed by the members through the Society’s participative
system of self-monitoring serves as the lifeblood of the iAMS Distribution Rules.
Having read and understood the Basic Introduction to the iAMS Distibution Rules, I express my consent to its implementation and pledge my full
cooperation.
Just like in all human organizations, differences and disputes are bound to arise
among members of the Society. Should I happen to get involved in one, I commit
to cooperate in resolving differences and misunderstandings through veracity,
accuracy, fairmindedness, and common courtesy.
I understand that the Society has barely started operating as a Performance
Rights association and community. It is bound to falter and fizzle here and there,
surely. However, I get the point exactly. The very name “I Am The Society” means
that its advances and delays heavily depends on many others like me. While I
shall speak my mind freely to criticize and call the attention of the people in
charge (and duty bearers) of the Society if necessary, I shall do so ever mindfully.
If I am the Society, then the Society is me.
I am of course aware that I Am The Society does not exist in a vacuum, but among other similar interest groups motivated by diverse interests in the music business that is but a part of the broader global creative content industry, that is ultimately an expression of the best hopes of human society throughout history. If so, I shall try to always remember to employ creativity in such a manner that contributes in some way – to composing a kinder and more equitable much Larger Society.
